WHAT, WHERE, WHEN

When and where does the Constellations event in West Kirby take place?

Constellations presents Joanie Lemercier takes place from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 October. There will be displays every 30 minutes, starting at 7pm with the last showing at 9.30pm each evening.

Constellations will be seen from the south side of Marine Lake in West Kirby, next to West Kirby Sailing Club. The event will be signposted from the centre of West Kirby and our volunteers will be on hand to guide you.

What is Constellations presents Studio Joanie Lemercier?

Constellations is an immersive installation by French artist Joanie Lemercier which journeys through the stars using a huge wall of water particles. You can find out more about the display on the main event page.

This is the first part of a series of events – also called Constellations - taking place across Liverpool City Region during October and November, designed to bring local communities together and encourage stargazing. For more information on other events, please visit the Constellations website.

What time does the event start?

There will be displays every 30 minutes, starting at 7pm with the last showing at 9.30pm each evening.

What should I wear?

Constellations takes place after dark and it be cold and windy by Marine Lake, particularly during the evening.

Please dress for the weather and be aware that as this is a moving installation involving water, depending on the weather conditions, there is a possibility you may get slightly wet. If it rains, please wear waterproofs and do not bring umbrellas as they may block the view of others.

Is it FREE to attend Constellations in West Kirby?

Yes, the event is free and no tickets are required.

Is this event suitable for children?

Yes, the display is suitable for all that wish to join us. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Why is it happening and who is it for?

Constellations presents Studio Joanie Lemercier is part of Wirral’s 2019 programme of events as it celebrates being Borough of Culture for the Liverpool City Region. These events have been funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and a significant grant from Arts Council England which recognises the fantastic progress which is being made in Wirral to place arts, culture and creativity at the heart of our plans for regenerating the borough.

Throughout the year, Wirral has hosted major cultural and sporting events inspired by the themes of discovery, exploration and the great outdoors. These themes have influenced the Constellations project across the whole Liverpool City Region, which is bringing a different artist to each of the boroughs during October and November.

Can you bring your own food or drink?

Food and drink items may be brought to the event for you to enjoy as you watch the installation.

Is there anywhere to buy food and drink on the evening?

There will not be any food and drink stalls at this event. However, West Kirby is home to a number of great places to eat and drink.

CHILDREN AND DOGS

Is Constellations suitable for children?

Yes, the display is suitable for all that wish to join us. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Are dogs allowed?

We are expecting crowds to attend Constellations in West Kirby and the event will take place after dark. Please take this into consideration when deciding whether to bring your dog. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times.


GETTING TO WEST KIRBY MARINE LAKE

How do I get to West Kirby Marine Lake?

The event is accessible by public transport. We would encourage you to use public transport or travel by foot where possible, as parking will be limited. See details below.

Public Transport

Train: The event location is a 15-20 minute walk from West Kirby train station, with regular services to and from Liverpool. Plan your journey on the Merseyrail website or download the free Merseyrail app.

Bus: Plan your journey with the Arriva Bus App and buy your bus ticket in advance with the Arriva M-Ticket App. Visit the Arriva website for more information.

On foot: Please make your way to the south side of Marine Lake, next to West Kirby Sailing Club.

Cycling: West Kirby Marine Lake is easily accessible by bike. Please note that any bikes will be left at owners’ own risk.

Parking

Please be aware that South Parade will be closed to traffic from 6pm onwards. A drop off point is in place at corner of Sandy Lane/ Banks Road. We would encourage you to use public transport if possible.

Parking is available on Dee Lane car park, which is approximately a 15-minute walk to the event location. Parking here is free after 6.30pm.

Blue badge parking spaces will be reserved on South Parade nearest to the event and will be directed by stewards – these spaces will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Please respect local residents by not parking in the residential streets surrounding Marine Lake.

Will there be any road closures in place?

Yes, South Parade will be closed to traffic from 6pm onwards. A drop off point is in place at corner of Sandy Lane / Banks Road.


TOILETS AND ACCESSIBILITY

Are there toilets nearby?

There will not be toilets on site so please take this into consideration before you travel.

What considerations have been made for those with disabilities?

If you have any accessibility requirements for Constellations, please make yourself known to one of our volunteers or stewards who will be happy to assist you further.

An area is reserved for wheelchair users in front of the display. Please speak to a steward to access this area.


WEATHER CONDITIONS

Will Constellations in West Kirby be cancelled in bad weather?

As with all outdoor events, weather conditions may impact on our ability to run the event safely. Please check @ImagineWirral on Twitter for the latest updates.
